GIFTS Ministry

Growing In Faith Through Service

What is GIFTS Ministry?

At St. Anthony, GIFTS stands for Growing In Faith Through Service. The purpose of GIFTS Ministry is to contribute to the spiritual growth of an individual. Every Catholic Christian is called to be a follower of Jesus Christ and act on their faith by serving one another in the church community and in the community around us.

GIFTS Ministry offers a process that enables any parishioner to discover the unique gifts that God has given to them and to put those gifts into service in one of the several ministries that are offered. We also honor those who serve in volunteer ministry in the community. If you love what you are doing to volunteer for a cause, you can often be the spokesperson for others with similar gifts.

GIFTS Ministry is more than just a recruiter unit; we are making connections and equipping people to serve effectively.

How do I discover my place in serving others?

Your discovery begins with an interview to discover your preferences.

1. We can offer you a gifts assessment (it takes about 40 minutes) in which your God-given gifts will be confirmed. Together with an hour interview, you will come to a clearer knowledge of the placement that is right for you.

2. You may already know what area of ministry you are most attracted to. We can help get you there. We can also help you to become trained for specific ministries. (Go back to Home Page and click on “Involvement” to learn about some of the ministries we offer. You may let us know your interests by following instructions in the “on-line registration”).

How will this help me?

The process will help you to serve in effective and fruitful ways. We place you with teams of people who mentor you in your ministry and support you. We offer you the kind of support that keeps you in touch with the “Giver of the gifts” so that you will find yourself always growing in faith.

The process has also helped people to discover better career choices.

How is this different than finding volunteers
to get the work done?

We are more interested in you than in filling slots for ministry.

It is not the job of GIFTS ministry to make you work harder or to find more for you to do. We want each person to find “good enough” ministry in their busy lives. And at times, you are the one who needs being ministered to by participation in a support group.

How does this benefit St. Anthony?

As you grow, the community of St. Anthony grows too. We are experiencing a growing awareness of the importance of our human community. ȁWhere I am weak, others are stronger. I don’t have to do it all. I can trust and depend on others to work side by side with me.” We are growing in our relationship with a God who believes in us. Together, with His help, we can change the world into the Kingdom of God.
