There are many among God's people who are called to do practical things for His community. These people gather in the Facilities Ministry and serve God and their fellow parishioners with this ministry by maintaining the buildings and grounds and keeping equipment in good shape; so those coming here to work and worship may find a functional and welcoming environment.
The Facilities Ministry provides service in the following fields: plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electricity, light fixtures, doors, locks, windows, carpets, floors, bathrooms, garbage, recycling, roofs, gutters, fences, parking lots, School playground, School play equipment, sidewalks, parish vehicles, sewer, painting, phone systems, security alarm systems, security monitoring systems, fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler system, elevator, grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, irrigation systems, all appliances, office equipment, rental houses, etc.
Staff personnel, some temporary workers, and numerous volunteers perform these duties. The Facilities Ministry is headed by the Facilities Supervisor whose responsibilities are far-reaching and complex. He is in charge of developing and implementing a master plan and action schedule for the entire plant of the Parish. It is, furthermore, his duty to acquire bids for projects that are contracted out, and to monitor the work done by outside contractors. He also provides information regarding facilities to other staff members, and to the whole parish community. The Facilities Supervisor also supervises the full-time parish employees and temporary workers in the field of maintenance and whose main responsibility is cleaning all parish buildings, maintaining the grounds, and performing light repairs. Organizing and supervising the facilities volunteers is likewise the responsibility of the Facilities Supervisor. These wonderful volunteers belong the Facilities Team.
The Facilities Team has about fifteen active members and another ten who help occasionally when the need arises. One can join the team if he or she pledges to do some manual work in the field of maintenance. The tasks are numerous and the volunteers do everything, except for some sensitive tasks where the service of an expert is advisable or if the project is too large, in which case we call a contractor. The Facilities Team also serves as an advisory organization to the Facilities Supervisor.
Volunteers working in the Facilities Ministries contribute an average of 330 hours each month to the upkeep of our facilities. Without their help, the parish would not be able to sustain the current high level of maintenance, and would have to pay significantly more to outside contractors.
If you want to join the Facilities Team, please call James Morrissey, Facilities Supervisor, at 253-266-8095.
Facilities Ministry Prayer
You have called us to serve Your people
here at St. Anthony Parish
in the field of facilities.
Fill us with Your Holy Spirit
so that we may answer this call.
Give us strength to work hard
for the physical needs of Your people,
so that when they come here
to work or worship
they may find well-kept
buildings, grounds, equipment,
and an inviting environment.
Help us to follow the example
of your servant, St. Joseph,
whose name our Maintenance Shop bears.
As he had labored
for the needs of the Holy Family,
so may we work
for the needs of our Parish Family.
